Figure & Image Guidelines

Technical specifications for graphics in your paper

Image Formats

Recommended: Vector Graphics

PDF, EPS for diagrams, charts, and plots. Scalable without quality loss.

Acceptable: Raster Images

PNG (lossless) or JPEG (photos only). Minimum 300 DPI resolution.

Avoid: Low Quality

Screenshots, GIFs, or images below 300 DPI. Will appear pixelated in print.

Technical Requirements
  • Resolution:Minimum 300 DPI for raster images
  • Color Mode:RGB for digital, CMYK considered
  • Font Size:Minimum 8pt in figures (after scaling)
  • Line Width:Minimum 0.5pt for visibility
  • File Size:Compress large images, balance quality
  • Placement:Top or bottom of column/page
Figure Captions Best Practices

Fig. 1. Network architecture showing the convolutional layers (Conv), pooling layers (Pool), and fully connected layers (FC).

✓ Descriptive, explains what the figure shows, defines abbreviations

• Number figures consecutively (Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc.)

• Place caption below the figure

• Use full sentences with proper punctuation

• Define all symbols and abbreviations used in the figure

• Reference figures in text before they appear
